Donor policy

This page sets out how The Good Race Foundation handles the gifts entrusted to it. We would rather write this down plainly than have anyone wonder.

Tax deductibility

The Good Race Foundation is organized as a charitable organization. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. We are not able to give tax advice; please consult your own advisor about your particular situation.

Your receipt

A written acknowledgment is emailed to you automatically as soon as your gift is processed. It shows the organization's name, the date and amount of your gift, and a statement of whether any goods or services were provided in exchange — which, for an ordinary gift to this foundation, they are not. The IRS requires a written acknowledgment for any single gift of $250 or more, and we issue one for every gift regardless of size. Keep it with your tax records.

If a receipt does not arrive, check your spam folder first, then write to us and we will re-send it.

How gifts are used

Gifts given without a designation are applied wherever the need is greatest across the three callings of this foundation: sharing the Gospel, standing with families facing cancer, and partnering for humanitarian aid.

Gifts designated for a specific purpose are honored for that purpose. If a designated need is fully met, or circumstances make the designated use impossible, the foundation's board may redirect those funds to the closest comparable need, consistent with IRS rules on the variance power. We will say so publicly when that happens.

Gifts designated for partner organizations

When gifts are designated toward the work of a partner organization, the foundation grants those funds to the partner and retains the discretion and control over the grant that the IRS requires of it. Your receipt is issued by The Good Race Foundation.

Gifts designated for Sudan relief are granted to the Persecution Project Foundation, which delivers medical supplies to rural clinics and hospitals, safe water, shelter, and pastoral support to people displaced by civil war and religious persecution. The Persecution Project Foundation is a separate organization with its own governance and its own tax-exempt status; The Good Race Foundation is responsible for the receipt you receive and for the grant it makes.

Recurring gifts

You may change or cancel a recurring gift at any time using the link in your donation confirmation email, or by contacting us directly. We will never make it difficult.

Refunds

If you gave in error, gave twice, or entered the wrong amount, contact us within 30 days and we will refund it, no explanation required. Refunds are returned to the original payment method. If a receipt was already issued, we will issue a correction so your tax records stay accurate.

Processing fees

Online gifts carry a payment processing fee charged by the card networks and our processor. Donors are offered the option to cover that fee so the full intended amount reaches the work. Covering the fee is entirely optional and the full amount you pay is receipted.

Donor privacy

We do not sell, rent, or trade donor information, and we do not publish donor names without permission. See our privacy policy for the full detail.

Anonymous giving

You may give anonymously with respect to any public recognition. We still need your name and address in our internal records to issue a valid receipt.
